Website & Social Media Submissions (OPEN)

UPDATE as of March 28, 2023: Submission guidelines for the website and social features are actively being updated and will be changed on the website very soon. Please reach out to us at humankindzine@gmail.com for our most up-to-date guidelines.

Website submissions will be posted on our blog and featured on our social media. Our team will be evaluating each submission based on the quality of work and relevance to Humankind Zine's mission statement. We will only be contacting contributors whose work is accepted.

If you are interested in submitting work to the website, please read each work’s specific guidelines very carefully. When you’re ready, email us at humankindzine@gmail.com with the subject line: Title of work (Website Submission) - Your Name. An example: Cat World (Website Submission) - Jane Doe. Please also name any documents, files, and/or images with your name and the work’s title. For example, a photo essay could be in a Google Drive Folder named Zine Enthusiast_John Doe. Use the same file naming system for multiple images with a number, like Zine Enthusiast_John Doe (1), Zine Enthusiast_John Doe (2), etc.

If you are looking to be featured only on social media, use #humankindzine and/or tag us @humankindzine in your work.

NOTE: By submitting work to Humankind Zine, you are giving us permission to share your work with credit on our website and social media pages. Email us at
humankindzine@gmail.com for any questions or concerns.

  • Written work consists of creative writing, fiction, interviews, poetry, personal essays, etc.

Word limit is 2000 words maximum

If there’s an image related to your piece, send the image as a jpeg or png file. We ask that you do not put it in the document file as we cannot download your images from there.

Please DO NOT copy and paste your writing in the body of the email or screenshot your writing (ex: screen shot of poetry written on the notes app). Instead, put your writing in a document file, like Google Docs or Microsoft Word.

If there are links, please put a hyperlink by inserting the link the relevant keyword or phrase. For anything that has sources, please make sure the sources are credible and to cite them properly by including the following:

    • Title of the piece

    • Name of author

    • Publication date

    • Name of publisher

    • Link to the actual source

  • Visual art consists of sculptures, paintings, sketches, doodles, comics, jewelry, etc.

3D pieces (ex: sculptures, ceramics, etc.): Please send images or videos showing the different angles of the piece.

  • Digital visual art includes — but is not limited to — videos, music, graphic design, illustrations, photography, and collages. Please read the specifics for films/videos and music.

Films/Videos: We can only accept films and videos with audio that you, the creator, own or have the rights to use. If this doesn’t apply to you, please send 1-5 stills or images related to the film.

Music: Send in 1-5 images related to your music submission. This might look like — but not limited to — music video stills and album cover art. If applicable, please send in the official lyrics for our team to review. Approved music submissions will be on our website for readers to check out via our Spotify playlist and digital submission page. With that being said, please also include links to the song/album and/or music videos.

If you are looking to do a film/music premiere or have our team do a write up, please reach out to us at humankindzine@gmail.com.

  • Miscellaneous work might include — but are not limited to — recipes, recommendations, horoscopes, playlists, and puzzles.

Issue Submissions (CLOSED)

4/4/23 UPDATE: If you submitted to our annual zine before, we encourage you to read the submission guidelines carefully as things have changed.

Thank you for considering submitting your work to Humankind Zine's annual publication. We appreciate your interest in Issue Five: Tasting Memories. For this issue specifically, we are evaluating whether to continue publishing a digital zine or offer a physical zine for purchase (more specifics in the submission form). Regardless of our decision, we are still accepting submissions for publication — it is free to submit.

To ensure your submission meets our criteria, please review all of our guidelines carefully before submitting your work. These guidelines are subject to change — any updates and changes will be announced via Instagram and from our email at humankindzine@gmail.com

    • Each person can submit up to 2 pieces max

    • A collection/series is considered as one submission. Please be mindful of the amount of work within your collection/series. For example, we received a collection of written work containing 10 pieces that hit the maximum word count.

    • All work must be original and copyright free

    • If relevant to your submission, please include the full list of team credits and/or sources

    • We accept unpublished pieces (preferred) and published pieces (must have outlet or publication’s permission). If you are submitting your work to multiple outlets, please inform us immediately if your piece is accepted elsewhere.

    • While we welcome contributors to interpret each issue's theme in their own way, work containing any plagiarism, hate speech, discrimination, and any content that promotes harmful or illegal activities will not be considered for publication

    • OPTIONAL: Please include a brief bio (100 words or less) or artist statement (200 words or less) with your submission. We will not include any bios or artist statements if they exceed the stated word count
